George A. Kollias D.C.George A. Kollias D.C. is a 1996 graduate of Life Chiropractic college in Marietta Georgia. He has been serving the Westchase/Citrus Park area of Tampa since 1997. In 2000, he established Sheldon Road Chiropractic and Massage Therapy with the vision of providing both tried and true traditional Chiropractic techniques as well as utilizing new technological advances in the natural treatment of neck and back pain.

What led him to Chiropractic?
"I was a 21-year-old athlete who had never had a back or neck problem before. That changed when I injured my neck playing in a rugby match. For weeks I was in pain, barely able to move my neck and unable to stop the pain. I saw my family physician who prescribed medication, I saw an orthopedist who prescribed more medication but at the end of the day I was pretty much the same, in pain and unable to do the things I loved the most. Finally, one of my teammates suggested that I go see his chiropractor, Dr. Richard Markland."

"Never before had I gone in to a doctor's office feeling sick or in pain only to leave feeling pretty much fine, but on that day I did, and it changed my life. Dr. Markland examined my neck, took x-rays, showed me where the problem was, and then performed an adjustment on my neck and upper back. Afterwards, my neck felt so good that later that same day I was able to return to rugby practice after being out for weeks. I was so impressed that I eventually decided to quit my job and enroll at Life Chiropractic College".

"My favorite part of practicing chiropractic? I would have to say it's treating patients who are new to chiropractic itself. I often see patients who had resisted seeing a chiropractor but who upon the recommendation of a friend or a loved one comes to "try us out". The change that occurs when these patients see that chiropractic is safe and effective is always priceless."

Karen A. Derr, D.C.

Karen A. Derr, D.C. graduated from New York Chiropractic College in 1996 with a Doctorate in Chiropractic. Her passion is in educating families about how their bodies work and how to achieve and maintain optimal health at any age. Her main focus is children’s’ health issues, arthritis prevention, sinus and allergy elimination. These conditions are handled not by covering-up or reducing the symptoms and waiting for the next episode to strike, but by discovering how the problem got like that in the first place and creating a change so that the body can again heal naturally.

Dr. Karen has given presentations in many corporations over the last ten years including Verizon Wireless, Merrill Lynch and AT&T. Topics include Health and Stress, Peak Performance, Headaches and Weight Management.

Dr. Karen has volunteered her time to deliver a unique presentation entitled, Drug-Free Solutions to Learning Disabilities, to both educators and parents in schools and day care centers throughout the state. This information is in great demand and most valuable to anyone who is involved with children of all ages. The content of this seminar has been approved and qualifies for continuing education credits for day care providers in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

Her interest in chiropractic began after having been diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 11, a condition when the spinal bones grow curved, instead of straight. This condition prevented her from participating on the school’s sports teams. This news was amazing to Karen because she did not have any pain or any symptoms at all! She had always been a cheerful and athletic young girl.

After being notified by the school of this condition, her parents sought advice from a medical physician. It was recommended that she wear a metal brace every waking hour in order to prevent the abnormal curves from getting worse. Karen was not in agreement with this form of treatment and the family began searching for other options. Karen was brought to a chiropractor. X-rays were taken and measurements were performed. The recommendation was very different this time. The chiropractor explained how the muscles of her spine were imbalanced; and the spinal bones were being twisted to one side, irritating the nervous system that controls every function of the body. A series of adjustments would balance the muscles and bones and relieve the irritation, allowing the body function normally. Karen was able to participate in sports the following year and did not have to wear a metal brace! This fast “recovery” began Karen’s desire to learn how to become a chiropractor and offer this solution to other children for this and many other health conditions.

She feels privileged to have delivered quality care to tens of thousands of men, women and children in both New Jersey and Florida and continues to accept new patients at Sheldon Road Chiropractic & Massage Therapy.

Autumn M. Scaz, D.C.

Autumn M. Scaz, DC, received her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Life University in 2000.  Since becoming a board certified Chiropractic Physician, she has had held a license in the state of Florida, as well as, the state of Tennessee. Prior to moving to Tampa in 2012, Dr. Scaz practiced in her home town of Sarasota, FL, with her practice focusing on family care, as well as spinal correction and rehabilitation.

While her parents introduced her to chiropractic at a young age, it was during her undergraduate studies at Stetson University that she experienced the true power of what chiropractic adjustment could accomplish. Majoring in Piano Performance and minoring in Exercise Science, she sought out chiropractic care to help with headaches caused by tension in the neck and shoulders due to several hours of daily piano practice.  After several months of treatments she realized that, through chiropractic adjustments, she was unexpectedly free from another condition that she had suffered from since childhood, asthma.  It was then that she decided to pursue a career in Chiropractic.

When asked what the most enjoyable aspect of being a chiropractor was to her, she replied “second to physically adjusting patients, I love to educate people on the anatomy of the human body”.  Because of this passion for education, she has enjoyed teaching several semesters in the Nursing and Physical Therapy programs at Keiser University stating “I taught as an adjunct educator, meaning I taught classes at night, and my students consisted primarily of working adults who were going back to school for an education to better themselves, their lives and the lives of their families”.

Dr. Scaz is privileged and excited to be a part of Sheldon Road Chiropractic and Massage Therapy, where they continue to offer the latest treatment options and the highest quality of care.
